Car-Port + Cycle Storage

The Sherman residence Car-Port and Cycle Storage is a celebration of creative architectural processes situated within the context of Vernon, BC. The Car-Port is a simple pavilion designed to frame the landscape. The horizontal roof plane is clad in locally sourced and milled wood, and the angled steel columns mimic the copses of trees throughout the property.

The Cycle Storage building stands as a pavilion, poised over the valley backdrop. The building incorporates large sliding doors, optimizing the valley’s vistas beyond, and makes it an ideal place for the owners to spend time working on their bikes.

Both structures are tied together with their use of materials, a combination of wood, concrete and steel elements. The Cycle Storage building draws upon the form of the existing house structure, repeating the angled roof design, and using vertical wood siding in a similar fashion. The Car-Port draws upon the horizontality of the existing house, drawing from the thick roof elements as a precedent for its own roof. Completed 2017.
