BC SPCA Squamish

“If you are looking for a highly skilled, experienced, and educated architect who is solution focused and will work with your organization’s best interest in mind, studioHuB architects is the perfect choice.”

- Sarah Jones, Regional Manager, BC SPCA

Located in an existing 1,998 SF industrial building, the new facility incorporates an animal shelter to the community of Squamish, with priority care and comfort for cats and small animals. A large community rental space has been incorporated into the facility for community outreach, parties, cat yoga and other gatherings. To design and meet the programming and technical requirements within a limited space and project budget, creative solutions integrated throughout the project, including bright finishes and large format black and white photos.

Special care was taken to maximize natural light through clerestory windows in the cat rooms. The colour scheme is bright and aligns with the BC SPCA colours to create a warm and inviting space for staff, the public and the animals.

The design of SPCA facilities needs to adhere to numerous standards including health, veterinary and various animal care guidelines. The facility has incorporated an exam room, space for cleaning and food preparation, and high standard animal care rooms. Materials are selected to withstand the rigorous cleaning protocols, and the high intensity use by both staff, visitors and animals. Completed 2019.
