Yale Road Women’s and Children’s Housing

studioHuB is serving as both Architect and Coordinating Registered Professional (CRP) for a new 60-unit permanent housing project in Chilliwack, BC, purpose-built to support women and children fleeing violence or at risk of homelessness. The project includes 40 units of Supportive Housing (studio suites) and 20 units of Second-Stage Housing (1-, 2-, and 3-bedroom apartments), providing a trauma-informed, safe, and inclusive environment.

This project is directly aligned with the Deliverables requested in this RFP, exemplifying studioHuB’s experience in social housing for women and families, including supportive and transitional programs. The building is being designed to Step Code 4 performance standards and responds to complex programmatic needs through thoughtful spatial planning and building envelope strategies.

A key project success has been studioHuB’s leadership in an inclusive and respectful stakeholder engagement process that meaningfully incorporated Indigenous-informed design. Engagement with local Indigenous representatives has informed culturally sensitive design decisions, particularly in shared and ceremonial spaces.

The facility includes a full commercial kitchen, dining area, classrooms and play spaces for children, shared laundry, clinical support spaces, and Overdose Prevention Services. studioHuB has led the project through rezoning, development permit approvals, and floodplain-specific planning considerations. The project is on track to begin construction in Summer 2025.
