The BC SPCA Animal Behaviour Centre in Duncan, BC, is the first facility of its kind for the BC SPCA and one of the first dedicated animal behaviour centres in Canada. Located on Vancouver Island, the centre is designed to support animals that are fearful, under-socialized, or require behavioural rehabilitation before being adopted into permanent homes.

The facility provides specialized spaces for observing, assessing, and modifying animal behaviour. The program includes animal shelter areas, food preparation and storage, medical intake rooms, community and training spaces, offices, kennels, outdoor dog runs, cat housing, isolation rooms with enhanced mechanical systems, loading and storage areas, bylaw officer rooms, and staff and volunteer amenities including washrooms, lockers, and a kitchen. A dedicated “real-life room” allows animals to be assessed and trained in a setting that more closely reflects a home environment.

studioHuB architects ltd. led the design of the facility and is continuing its involvement through the construction phase. Construction commenced in November 2024, with Kinetic serving as Construction Manager. The project is being delivered in collaboration with AME and AES as the mechanical and electrical consultants.
