Surrey Fire Hall No. 11 & No. 15 Renovation & Expansion
studioHuB architects ltd. is leading the renovation and expansion of Surrey Fire Hall No. 11 and Fire Hall No. 15, two projects focused on extending the service life of existing emergency response facilities while supporting evolving operational requirements. Both projects are located on constrained, fully operational sites and require thoughtful planning to maintain fire department operations throughout design and construction.
Working closely with Surrey Fire Service leadership and operations staff, the design team developed solutions that respond to contemporary firefighting practices, health and safety requirements, and post-disaster resilience objectives. Proposed upgrades include reconfigured apparatus bays to support drive-through vehicle movements, improved circulation between operational spaces, modernized SCBA and gear storage areas, and new fitness and wellness facilities for firefighters.
The projects present a range of site-specific challenges, including limited room for expansion, complex vehicle movements, and the need to minimize disruption to ongoing emergency services. One site also requires a zoning amendment to accommodate the proposed improvements. Throughout the design process, careful consideration has been given to constructability, operational continuity, and long-term value.
Currently in the design phase, the projects are progressing through design development and construction documentation, with studioHuB continuing as Architect through tendering and construction. Together, these projects demonstrate how targeted renovations and additions can enhance the functionality, safety, and resilience of existing fire halls while supporting the critical services they provide to the community.
