The Don Ross Middle School is growing and looking to maximize space within its existing building, while waiting for approval for an expansion project. This is a fast-track project with only 2 months for design & construction and is scheduled to be completed in September.
StudioHuB designed a transformation for three oversized science rooms, which were no longer in use, into an innovations lab with four classrooms, breakout spaces and a central common learning space. The adjacent gendered washroom will also be transformed into a gender-neutral washroom area.
The interior walls will be a proprietary modular wall system by DIRTT, which allows for fabrication off-site and easy erection on site so the renovation will be completed over the summer break. The new space will provide a much needed modern learning environment in this older building, and will allow the school district to test out a more flexible furniture solution as well as team teaching.
