Kanaka Bar Indian Band
studioHuB architects ltd. is designing a new multi-use community centre for the Kanaka Bar Indian Band. Known as The Gathering Place, the facility will bring together band administration, healthcare supports, cultural teaching spaces, and a communal kitchen under one roof.
The building is intended to serve as an emergency gathering and disaster relief centre for the broader region. The design incorporates FireSmart principles and climate resilience strategies that respond to the environmental conditions of the Fraser Canyon.
The project has involved extensive stakeholder engagement, including multiple visits to the community and ongoing discussions about site selection, programming, and design. studioHuB is honoured to support Kanaka Bar in realizing their vision for The Gathering Place: a safe, welcoming, and inclusive space for community members, while also serving Indigenous and non-Indigenous residents throughout the Fraser Canyon. The project is currently seeking funding and will advance into detailed design as funding opportunities are secured.
